The Gros Morne Institute for Sustainable Tourism (GMIST) advances the quality and success of tourism operators through an array of training programs developed and offered at the Institute and beyond.
ACTivate Community Tourism
GMIST and Coady Institute are excited to launch this NEW program which takes a strengths-based and citizen-led approach to community development. This hands-on course includes online sessions, in-community learning and an opportunity for you to test out some resources and tools in your own community!
Applications for this program have now closed. We will review the applications and notify participants by January 31. Official start date for the program is Feb 28th!
Leadership & Innovation for the Future of Tourism
This innovative program is designed for tourism operators and organizations who want to move an idea for a new or enhanced tourism experience from concept to market. LIFT combines online and in-person learning with plenty of peer-to-peer collaboration.
Deadline to apply is January 31, 2023.
Join us for StoryCenter’s well travelled workshop in online digital storytelling. Over the course of seven Thursdays starting February 16, you will conceive a story, write a narration, record and edit a 2-5 minute digital story. You will get great coaching support from the StoryCenter team throughout the creative process.
Deadline to apply is January 20.
The Sandbox Sessions are back! Tuesday mornings starting February 28 we have five great topics lined up for these informal and interactive group chats: People, Places & Culture; 2SLGBTQ+ Inclusivity; Best Practices in Growing Culinary & Agritourism; Zero Waste: One Event at a Time; and The Art of Networking.
Festivals & Events Bootcamp
GMIST is excited to bring back an in-person Festivals & Events Bootcamp for event and festival professionals who would like to collaborate with their colleagues from across the region and learn in a peer-to-peer environment.

Webinar: Using Story to Brand Your Efforts
At this workshop, Joe Lambert, the founder of StoryCenter based in Berkley, CA, will share ways that effective storytelling can assist with your ability to brand and market your business, including how short films can work for public presentations, social media posts, and your website. Workshop is February 6 @ 2 pm AST.
Dr. Rachel Dodds will be leading two webinars which will dive into some great discussion about sustainability and its impact on tourism:
March 30 @ 2 pm AST – What is Sustainable Tourism & Where do I Start?
April 20 @ 2 pm AST – How can I Shift Toward More Sustainable Tourism?
